MapHub is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your geographic learning data should stay with you, not on our servers.

Data Collection & Storage

What We Collect

  • Nothing is sent to our servers: MapHub operates entirely in your browser
  • Local Storage Only: Quiz scores, calculation history, and preferences are stored locally on your device
  • No Account Required: No registration, no passwords, no personal information collected

How Your Data is Stored

  • Browser localStorage: Simple preferences and recent searches (max 5-10 MB)
  • IndexedDB: Quiz history, map generation history, and calculation records (stored locally only)
  • Your Control: Clear your browser data at any time to delete all MapHub data

What We DO NOT Collect

  • Personal information (name, email, address)
  • Location tracking (except when you explicitly use "Current Location" button)
  • Browsing history
  • IP addresses for user tracking
  • Payment information (we don't sell anything)

Third-Party Services

Analytics

Ahrefs Web Analytics: We use privacy-focused analytics to understand site traffic and improve features. This collects anonymized page views and basic browser information (no personal data).

Vercel Analytics: We use Vercel Analytics for basic performance monitoring and page view tracking. This service is privacy-friendly and does not use cookies or collect personal information.

External APIs (User-Initiated Only)

OpenStreetMap Nominatim: When you use the Distance Calculator, location names are sent through our server to the Nominatim API for geocoding. This is only triggered by your explicit action (clicking "Calculate") and is proxied through our server to protect your privacy.

No Automatic API Calls: We never send data to external services without your direct action.

Geolocation

When you click "Use Current Location" in the Distance Calculator:

  • Your browser will ask for permission to access your location
  • Location data is used only for that single calculation
  • Location is never stored or sent to our servers
  • You can deny permission at any time

Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: View your quiz history and calculations anytime in the app
  • Delete: Clear browser data (localStorage/IndexedDB) to remove all MapHub data
  • Export: Download your quiz history as CSV from the progress page
